Applications for the fall 2008 semester will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning December 7, 2007

The Trinity/La MaMa Urban Arts Semester in NYC utilizes the landscape and history of New York City as a catalyst for an intensive study in the arts. The semester is structured to provide full immersion in the NYC theater, dance, performance communities as well as other arts genres with the goal of fostering artistic, academic, and personal growth.

When Trinity/La MaMa was founded twenty years ago by dance/theater artist and Chair of Trinity College’s Theater & Dance Department Judy Dworin and NYC theater artist Leonardo Shapiro, there was both a spontaneity and flexibility to the semester supported by a clear structure. The current investigative approaches return to Trinity/La Mama’s original roots by including the following components: a comprehensive academic seminar, an arts internship, practice classes, attendance at several performances per week, group and individual field studies, master classes with guest artists, and diverse guest speakers.

New York City is the “laboratory” for our studies and artistic explorations. Each week is dedicated to a specific theme that connects all of the conceptions and artistic approaches at play. The semester culminates with an original student-generated arts event presented by La Mama, E.T.C.
